Army Denies Stealing Animals

THE UPDF has denied reports that they are stealing people's animals in the Karamoja region. "It is not true that the army is taking away people's animals.

We are here to protect the people and their property, not to take it away," said the regional army spokesman, Capt. Henry Obbo. He noted that the army was protecting the community from cattle rustlers that come from the neighbouring countries.

Obbo made the remarks recently at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala during the launch of a Karamojainfo website that will provide information about the region.

The project is supported by the Refugee Law Project. He said the UPDF only keeps animals which people fail to verify. "The animals are later screened by the local leaders and given to their owners."
