As the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) expresses interest in a new ceasefire deal and fresh negotiations, it is also calling for a new mediator. LRA's spokesman, David Matasanga, said his leader, Joseph Kony would prefer the former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo to the South Sudan Vice President, Riek Machar to serve as mediator.

Reik Machar has been mediating between the LRA and the Ugandan government until to reach a peace deal whcih the rebel leader failed to sign. Meanwhile, South Sudan continues to be a target of the LRA and hundreds of Sudanese have been killed and many more displaced due to attacks by the Ugandan rebel group.

The Government of South Sudan has recently announced that it would go all out to get rid of the LRA in its territory
