LRA reported in South Darfur, government denies

SOURCE: Radio Dabanga

Some media outlets in Khartoum have reported that elements of the Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army have infiltrated into areas of West Darfur State, coming from Bahr El Ghazal in southern Sudan. These reports follow the Darfuri LJM movement's claim last week that they had captured three LRA fighters in a remote part of South Darfur bordering Bahr El Ghazal and the Central African Republic.

Meanwhile a source told Radio Dabanga that an armed group sparked horror and fear in the market of Jemayzeh south of Kass in South Darfur on Friday.

On the other hand, the state government of West Darfur denied any presence of the LRA in the state. Abdullah Khamis, Minister of Education and acting governor of West Darfur, told Radio Dabanga that LRA has no presence in the state, according to the findings of a state security committee that investigated the matter. His remarks to Radio Dabanga were broadcast today.
