Unamid Organizes Women Groups in North Darfur for UNSCR (1325)

UNAMID's Gender Advisory Unit has began mobilizing women representatives in North Darfur Civil Society organizations to participate in the preparatory meeting for the upcoming open day on the 10th Anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which falls on 7 June.

About 50 women were identified to participate in the meeting representing women's groups, youths, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and nomads from the 16 localities of North Darfur. Among those attending will be North State Government's committee on UNSCR 1325 and Women representatives and signatories to the Darfur Peace Agreement.

The Open Day is aimed at facilitating a dialogue between women in conflict context and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) for the Sudan on ways to accelerate the implementation of the resolution. The questions and recommendations from the women will be directly communicated to the UN Security Council to inform the Council's deliberation on the resolution scheduled for October 2010.
