The police in Gulu district have arrested the chairman of Acholi War Debt Claimants' Association, Norbert Adyera, for receiving sh30m from the Sudan consulate for land which he had already sold.
The order to arrest Adyera was made by the deputy resident district commissioner, Milton Odongo, on Friday following a complaint from the head of the Sudan consulate, Paul Nang Majok.
"During the process of acquiring the land title, we learnt that the land was already bought by other people. Adyera refunded sh20m and promised to pay the balance in four days, which he has not done," Majok said in a letter.
Odongo said Adyera, who is now under Police custody, must pay the sh10m.
