IRCU Inaugurates Acholi Regional Task Force Dec 21

On Tuesday December 21st, 2010 the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) National Task Force (NTF) Vice chairman His Grace John Baptist Odama inaugurated the regional task force for Acholi sub region at Pader Boma Ground. The function was attended by a section of the task force members and Elders’ forum elected to assist the regional task force. Present were also members of the Media houses, religious leaders and representatives civil society organizations.

Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) formed a national force for Peace and Conflict Transformation as part of current framework for religious leaders in Uganda to contribute towards violence-free, peaceful, free and fair elections in 2011 and beyond. The National Task Force (NTF) was formed early November and inaugurated on 18th November 2010 by the Chairman of the Council of Presidents of IRCU, His Eminence Jonah Lwanga, and Head of the Orthodox Church in Uganda. While the regional task force for Acholi sub region was elected 08th December 2010 at ARLPI’s board room in Gulu.

The regional task forces work through the Elders Forum whose role is to advice the Task Force on conflict transformation processes and needs and mediate in conflicts under the coordination of the Task Force. Members of the elders,’ forum include;

In his inaugural speech he thanked members for accepting to serve the country and promoting among the community.

I wish to thank you once more for participating in this event. We urge you to continue with the good work of promoting peace among God’s people, especially the politicians during this critical moment in our democratization process. We encourage the Task Force Members to arm themselves with faith and adequate information to face the challenges ahead of us as we prepare for the elections in 2011”

In reactions members accepted to work and called upon headquarters of IRCU to facilitate its activities since the work is so demanding in terms of transport, fuel and communication.
