Kampala — PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has directed the Minister of Education, Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire, to construct a school in memory of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels attack in Teso sub-region.
In a letter of August 14 2009, the President asked Bitamazire to implement the pledge in the 2010/2011 financial year.
During their incursion into Teso in 2003, the rebels killed civilians, burnt houses, looted and destroyed property.
Following the attack, the President visited the region and pledged to construct a memorial school at Obalanga sub-county in Amuria district.
Museveni said the school would be constructed at a memorial site, which was the first place attacked by the rebels.
He said it would be named Obalanga Comprehensive Senior Secondary School.
"When I visited the area after the LRA attack, I pledged on behalf of the Government to construct a school at Obalanga. The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to request you to implement this pledge in the 2010/11 financial year," Museveni said.
